Record Heat in City: Melbourne Swelters in 113: Six Die
11 January 1939

Hottest in Melbourne’s history, the temperature reached a maximum of 112.5 deg at 3.25 pm at the Weather Bureau yesterday. Five minutes later, at Gaunt’s, in the heart of the city, 113 was recorded.

Six people died from heat in Victoria, four of them in Melbourne, and numbers of others collapsed.
