Accurate estimation of merchantable volume in eucalypt management surveys (presented to the Commonwealth Forestry Conference, 1968).  D.W.M. Paine.  1967.  21 pp.

SUMMARY

A method is described for obtaining consistent accurate assessments of merchantable volume in certain eucalypt forests. The performance of the method is evaluated by determining the role which should be given to assessed plots in double sampling in which direct determinations of merchantable volume are made by felling.

The method is employed in continuous inventory, and in surveys where variations in utilization standards are expected. It provides a useful means of reporting the basis of assessments of merchantable volume.
